Aren't we covered under the school policy?

Some policies only cover booster clubs for events happening during school hours and on the school campus. Other school districts are removing booster clubs from their school’s insurance policy.

Every school is different, therefore our best advice is to give your school a list of your activities and be very specific. Don’t ask if your carnival is covered. Instead, go into great detail and list specific activities such as moonwalks, dunking tank, etc. Always get a written letter from the school stating that all of your activities are covered.

We are just a booster club; who would sue us?

Contrary to common belief, booster clubs are not immune from liability. You, as an individual member or officer of your Organization, could be held personally liable for an accident that occurs at one of your events. Booster Club Insurance not only protects your Organization but also protects you as an individual, especially when there is limited coverage through your homeowner’s insurance.

Are booster clubs required to be nonprofits to get insurance?

No. AIM insures booster clubs regardless of 501(c)(3) or nonprofit status. That said, many booster clubs operate as nonprofit organizations, and having the right insurance is a key step in protecting that status. Whether your club is formally incorporated, working toward 501(c)(3) designation, or operating informally, coverage is available.

Does our legal structure affect our coverage?

Not in most cases. Whether your booster club is structured as an LLC, a nonprofit, or an informal parent group, AIM can provide coverage. Contact AIM to discuss the right fit for your group.

Is booster club insurance available in my state?

Yes. AIM provides booster club insurance nationwide, including in Florida, California, Texas, and all 50 states. Whether your club is in a large urban district or a small rural community, we can help you find coverage that fits.

Does Your Booster Club Need Insurance?

Many booster clubs assume the school district’s policy has them covered. The reality is that most school districts actively remove booster clubs from their coverage, especially outside of school hours. Here are four risk scenarios every booster club should consider:A volunteer is injured at a car wash fundraiser.

General liability coverage pays for medical expenses and legal defense if the club is sued.

The club treasurer embezzles funds.

Fidelity bond (embezzlement insurance) coverage replaces the stolen money and covers the cost of the investigation.

A parent sues the board for mismanaging scholarship funds.

Directors and Officers liability covers legal defense costs and any resulting settlement.

A storm damages the club’s equipment stored off-site.

Inland marine (business personal property insurance) covers the replacement cost.

Without insurance, each of these scenarios could result in a financial loss large enough to shut down the club. AIM provides booster clubs, parent groups, and nonprofit organizations with a financial safety net that lets you focus on supporting your students.

What Kind of Insurance Does My Booster Club Need?

Event Insurance

General Liability Insurance

General Liability coverage protects you from liability claims if someone is injured at one of your organization’s events – and holds you responsible. This coverage acts as a financial safety net for your club any time volunteers, parents, or the public gather at a club-sponsored activity.

Embezzlement Insurance

Embezzlement Insurance / Fidelity Bond Coverage

Embezzlement is one of the most common financial risks booster clubs face. This fidelity bond coverage applies to anyone your organization trusts with the money (President, Treasurer, board member, volunteer, or courier). If that person runs off with your money, AIM replaces those missing funds. This protection covers internal theft and financial crimes before they become a catastrophe.

Directors and Officers Liability

If someone sued the officers of your organization for mismanagement, misrepresentations, dissemination of false or misleading information, or inappropriate actions, this coverage would pay to defend you. This includes volunteer officers and board members who may not realize they face personal liability for decisions made on behalf of the club.

Protect Your Property

Business Personal Property Insurance

Protect your raffle merchandise, auction items, and fundraising supplies while in your possession. This coverage also protects any personal property of your organization (popcorn machines, snow cone makers, etc).

Protecting Volunteers and Officers

Booster clubs run on the work of unpaid volunteers, and those volunteers face real personal liability risks. If a parent volunteer is injured while running a concession stand, or if an officer is named in a lawsuit over a budget decision, the costs can be devastating without the right coverage.

AIM’s insurance package includes volunteer protection across multiple coverage lines:

  • General Liability covers bodily injury claims involving volunteers and attendees at club events
  • Directors and Officers Liability protects officers and board members from lawsuits related to their decisions
  • Fidelity Bond covers theft or embezzlement by any trusted volunteer who handles club funds

Many school districts and venue managers now require booster clubs to carry insurance that includes volunteer liability protection before allowing events on school property.

What Fundraising Events Does Booster Club Insurance Cover?

Fundraising events are the lifeblood of any booster club, and they are also the primary source of liability claims. AIM’s general liability insurance covers a wide range of booster club fundraising events, including:

  • Car washes and community clean-up days
  • Bake sales, concession stands, and food events
  • Golf tournaments and fun runs
  • Auctions, raffles, and prize events
  • Concerts, dances, and community performances
  • One-day events with AIM’s single-event coverage starting at $50

If your club hosts events open to the public, even on school property, you need your own coverage. School district policies rarely extend to booster-run fundraising events held outside of regular school hours.

AIM also insures booster clubs connected to athletic programs and sports clubs, providing the same level of protection for after-school and community-based club insurance needs.
