2021 Tasks to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester

AIM Team 30 December, 2020

Fall Clean-Up Tasks to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester

Try completing a few Fall clean-up tasks to prepare for for the 2021 Spring semester. One easy task to complete at the end of the year is reviewing your PTA, PTO, or Booster Club bylaws. This is a simple, but tedious task that can often be put off by parent teacher groups. Make a mug of your favorite, hot holiday beverage and sit down to read over your bylaws. See if any bylaws need to be added, removed, or altered in future meetings to keep your parent teacher group running smooth.

Another Fall clean-up task you can complete is reviewing your group’s finances. This is a great task to tag-team with another member of your group. Look through the finances of the Fall semester and make sure everything lines up and is documented appropriately. Having two people look through your group’s finances increases the chances of discovering any discrepancies, should they exist.

While your reviewing your finances, it’s also a good time to review your PTA, PTO, or Booster Club’s tax documentation for the Spring. With tax season just around the corner, you can get a jump-start on preparing your documentation.

Organizational Tasks to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester

Keeping with the finances, this quiet time for your PTA, PTO, or Booster Club is just the right time to jump-start your budget planning for budget presentation. Having reviewed the expenses of last semester, you should have a better idea of what and how much to budget for the upcoming school year. Make sure to coordinate budget planning with your executive board!

Officer Nominations and Elections

This is also a great time to start thinking about officer nominations for your PTA, PTO, or Booster Club’s upcoming Spring elections. Discuss the underclassmen parents of your group that really stood out in the Fall semester as go-getters. These parents can make for great officer nominations for the upcoming election.

Parent Teacher Group Conferences

The time in between semesters is also a great opportunity to review parent teacher conferences, seminars, webinars, and training resources. Many PTA conferences are held in the Spring that you can plan to attend in-person or virtually. Attending a conference gives you an opportunity to network and learn new ways to promote your parent teacher group and make it successful. The earlier you get an item like this on your calendar the more likely you are to attend!

Spring Fundraiser Ideas

Another idea is to brainstorm and review your existing Spring fundraiser ideas. It is likely that the 2021 Spring semester will necessitate many of the social distancing and challenges of 2020. Take a look at your group’s past Spring fundraisers. Can any of them work with social distance protocols or be converted to a virtual fundraiser? If you need a little extra inspiration, see AIM’s 9 Parent Teacher Fundraiser Ideas for 2020-2021.

School Improvements to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester

The last year has been difficult for everyone. The health concerns have made the already difficult duties of teachers and school staff even more so over the Fall semester. This can be a great opportunity for your PTA, PTO, of Booster Club to step in and show a little teacher appreciation to boost morale. See if you can provide a small gift to faculty, or provide lunch during one of their staff development days before the start of the Spring semester.

Infrastructure Improvements

Infrastructure improvements require a lot of planning. It’s best to start planning for Spring improvements as soon as possible. Are you considering a campus beautification project? Now is a great opportunity to start planning the specifics of the project and even begin shopping for supplies and vendors.  The same goes for other projects as well, such as repairing or installing new playground improvements or repainting tennis and basketball court lines.

Have you considered creating a greenhouse or garden for your school? This can be a great Spring campus improvement you can tie-in with Earth Day.

Spring Purchases

And of course, it’s the right time to review needs and make purchases for your school’s Spring sports and clubs.

Event Planning to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester

There are a lot of potential Spring events for your parent teacher group. The secret to success for a busy semester is planning your events early. Get a jump-start to your parent teacher group’s Spring semester by planning for these events:

  • Valentine’s Day
  • Spring Break
  • Field Day
  • Graduation
  • Prom
  • Senior Class Trip
  • Spring Fling
  • Spring Formal
  • And More…

Event Coverage to Jump-start Your Parent Teacher Group’s Spring Semester with AIM

With many schools returning to partial or full in-person learning, it’s time to turn your parent teacher group’s attention to Spring events, and making sure your group is covered.
